Plumber London: Easy to find?

I am an international student on my second year. I and my best friend have rented this flat in a very nice place at a very nice price. As part of the contract with our landlord we have to pay all the expenses if we break something inside the flat. One day we noticed a very disgusting odor was coming out of the sink. WE decided it was time to call a Plumber London. We all agreed on that but actually none of us knew about one. Then we discussed that we needed to find someone trustworthy. In London everyone is at their own pace and we were student coming it and out of a house, so we really didn’t have a friend neighbors that we can consult about Plumber London.

We decided to use the yellow pages and there were many of them. WE called a few but they were kind of expensive because they said we were calling them on short notice. So we finally found one Plumber London at a reasonable price but we have to make an appointment for 2 days later. None of us wanted to touch the pipes or try to fix what was wrong because we were afraid that could get something broken and the house wasn’t hours.

Finally the day arrived and the plumber cam to hour house. Most of us where out of the house because we had classes, so a friend received him. Apparently he explained the situation to the plumber and left to his room. After a few hours the plumber told my friend hat the problem was solved and he was charging a hell lot of money for the repair. On top of charging for his work he charged for the material that consisted in a bottle of some kind of acid and then he charged us for gas because of transportation was far from where we lived.

I got really mad because I didn’t expect it to be so expensive and this guy seemed kind of cheeky. I think he was taking advantage of us but the fact is that my friend didn’t supervise him. I was also mad that we didn’t ask him where he was located, he knew he was far away and that he could charge us for transportation but he didn’t say anything on the phone

We decided to pay and he was pretending to be all professional and that. He even mentioned that we should buy something to stop hair going through the shower. I was really mad because we are student and can’t afford to be paying for such repairs. Back in my country plumbers are cheap but anyway we are in London. I think I’m going to make friend with the neighbors so they can give us advice next time.
